Rhinebeck Bingo 2011

Signup deadline is Sunday, October 9th, at midnight. It’s getting to be that time of year again, when a knitter’s thoughts turn to folly and festivals. And you know what that means, right? Rhinebeck Bingo!! That’s right, folks, it’s the best excuse yet to hug perfect strangers at the NY Sheep and Wool Festival. We’ve been playing for a few years now and I think it might be becoming something of a tradition. It’s a great way to put a face to the[...]

Sock Summit 2011

It’s almost here! Sock Summit 2011 is nearly here! I and my lovely compatriot, Caro of Splityarn, will be sharing a booth in the marketplace and I can’t even tell you how excited I am. We’re in Booth #518, you can see the entire list of vendors here. I have been basically working and sewing and that’s it for the last month. It’s been like a sweatshop in my place. There was a work slowdown in the middle when I[...]

ZOMG!!1!

***Warning – this is really long, but I promise, there are a lot of good links in here!*** It’s gearing up to be a wildly fun and productive summer! Spring has already lit a fire under my butt. I’m like Wile E. Coyote strapping himself to a bright red rocket and getting ready to blast off into the great unknown. Must. Go. Fast! I guess that makes the fiber community the Roadrunner? Not really sure how that all works out.[...]

Join the first annual Great Rhody Yarn Crawl this weekend for an amazing list of yarn shops, prizes, vendors, and even a good cause!
Makeover

In light of recent life events, I decided a makeover was in order. My skills at applying makeup typically leave me with the choice of any of these delightfully horrific looks. So I scrapped the idea of working on my facial region and went to IKEA. Any place you can buy a sofa and some meatballs is A-OK with me! I went a little bananas because it’s the first time I’ve actually “decorated” and it was a blast. I did[...]

Midlife Reboot

*Don’t worry, your calendar isn’t broken! I’m migrating some old posts from my Museum of Kitschy Stitches blog to this one as part of a reorganization scheme.* Things around Chez McYarnpants have changed in the last year. A lot. Things have changed like whoa. Things besides the book. (Which you should totally buy.) I was doing paperwork last week and saw this exact scene on my desk and knew it was the perfect way to start this blog post. I’ve[...]

On the Road (and the Internet Radio!)

*Don’t worry, your calendar isn’t broken! I’m migrating some old posts from my Museum of Kitschy Stitches blog to this one as part of a reorganization scheme.* After a very productive TNNA, Caro and I are feeling renewed and refreshed and exited about promoting the book in the new year. We considered TNNA to be Knitting It Old School’s Quinceañera. Partly because we didn’t have any materials available for TNNA summer, and partly because I like the thought of our[...]

Happy Handmade Holidays!

*Don’t worry, it’s not Christmas yet! I’m migrating some old posts from my Museum of Kitschy Stitches blog to this one as part of a reorganization scheme.* I have been one busy-ass bee. I LOVE being busy. Being tired from being buzzing around at a million miles an hour is much more satisfying to me than being tired due so sofa atrophy in front of a reality tv marathon. And trust me, I’ve had plenty of experience with both. When[...]

Sneak Preview – Speedway

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Here’s a quick sneak preview from Knitting It Old School. This is Speedway, it’s based on those super-cool hot rod jackets from the 60s. There’s a matching ladies version in red with black and white stripes. SO cute! The yarn is Louet Gems Sport Weight, so it’s a project, but the finished product will be a sturdy sweater that your speed demon will love. Speedway was designed by Caryn Lantz of Fuzzy Noodle Knits.[...]

ZOMG!!

Last year, someone at Lark Books saw the pillowcase pinafores in my Etsy shop. (I’ve haven’t made them in a while, they were really cute but not big sellers.) Anyhoodle, they asked me to submit the pattern for a book about using pillowcases to make various things. I sent the pattern I had drafted along with two of my favorites (please note that I didn’t actually embroider them, I bought them that way, all full of vintage cuteness) and dudes,[...]
