She’s Crafty

Although I have barely any knitting to show for it, I have been a very crafty girl. Almost non-stop crafty, actually. But most of it is for my Etsy shop. I guess I had a bit of knitting overload and needed to branch out and do something different. I am multi-craftural, after all. I still think of myself as a knitter, but I think I’m a knitter on sabbatical.

I feel kind of shy about promoting my shop on my blog, but I figured I should at least mention it once in a while. I really am pleased with the things I’ve made, so why not show them to people who might also enjoy them? See? I’m all awkward and goofy about it. Its like you just asked a seventh-grader if she likes the boy who sits behind her in math.

Gosh. Well, here are a few of my favorite things. I’m really proud of them, they’ve been really fun to work on.

These pendants are vintage clay poker chips decorated with wallpaper from the mid-1950s.  These are the prototypes, if you will. Future models will be a few dollars more because I’m going to use silver-plated bails and I want to include a ball chain with them. I’ve been wearing one with a ball chain and I love the way it highlights that nice clavical/neckal/pre-boobal region that we ladies love so well. (Special thanks to Maryse for photographing these for me. My camera couldn’t handle the texture of these babies.)

I’ve also been making keychains and buttons using images cut out of old magazines. I know, I know, it sounds crazy to be chopping up magazines. Trust me, I wrestled with it for a few days before I could do it, but I try to choose magazines that are either duplicates or in really rough shape. Now that I’m used to it, it’s easier to cut something up if I know someone can really enjoy the image. No sense in letting it go unloved, I say.

And check out this cute pouch made from vintage fabric!

I just had to make matching buttons. I love this fabric and will be sad when it’s gone. A lot of the fabric I use is vintage, so it’s often just a small piece and once its gone, its gone. I get really attached to it, like yarn. Someday I’ll post about the immense stash I’ve amassed.

And the very cutest thing of all? Well, I made the pins, but the artwork is actually Jon’s. Yep, my husband, the artist. This is “Dreadful Ted”. We just have a few for now, but we’ll be making a more very soon. He’s also working more equally adorable illustrations. Once he’s got more designs, he’s going to open up his own shop. I think he’s going to be a hit!
