I'm happy to say that our congregations locally are putting up 7 families and we are able to help by giving all sorts of stuff to them since they will be put up in apartments near us and came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs. So scary what they have been through, and seems more tragic since it was rather uneccesary. - On a lighter note, you got honorable mention in my blog - thought I should tell you I was talking about you =) (in a good way - I'm a major fan)

Thanks for suggesting that knitters put their money where their hearts are instead of their needles and yarn. While making things is a nice gesture, it's just not going to be all that helpful to people right now. Knitters need to realize that knitting is not a panacea for all that ails the world. It might help the knitters feel better about things... but Katrina victims need money right now, more than homemade blankets, hats, sweaters and washcloths.

Hi. Last week a knitter friend loaned me an 'Elle' pattern book from the early 80s. Some of the patterns/pictures *absolutely* belong in your MOKS. You MUST see the LineBacker Shoulder Pads Cardi!! If you'd like me to send you some of the pictures, email me. I'm at (remove spaces, change CAPs) grdn cats AT pac bell DOT com

That guinea pig dress looks very shapeless when it's layed out, but it's actually very flattering to the pig.

We gave to the Red Cross, and we're waiting to see how to donate my son's clothes that he's outgrown, and school supplies and such. This is going to be a very long-term rebuild.

BTW, I have a cat that big. He gave me a black eye once when I was trying to get him into his carrier - I'm sure he'd rip my throat out if I tried to get him into something like that. Not to mention those are not his colors.

Bless your heart. There'll be plenty of time for such tangible items later; right now, money is best.

Our town is filled to bursting with refugees, even up in Arkansas. These people need as much help as they can get as quick as it can get here. Thank you for making more folks aware!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that people do exactly what you've suggested and that *NO ONE* decides to start knitting scarves to send to victims. Cash is good.
